Saša Čorboloković, one of the sixteen awarded educators of the first generation in 2014, addressed his colleagues and guests at the sixth award presentation ceremony for the Best Educators of Serbia.
With his colleagues, co-workers, newly awarded educators and other guests, Saša shared his experience of why the year 2014 and receiving the title of the Best Educator of Serbia had been special to him.
“Dear colleagues, members of the Association ‘Živojin Mišić’, I would like to greet all of you as the representative of the first (and the oldest) generation of the awarded in 2014. When Ivona asked me if I wanted to write something, I accepted it without thinking because the year 2014 was special for me for a number of reasons.
First, at the award ceremony in Zepter Hotel I met some new people about whom, after saying a few words with them, I gained an impression as if I had known them for years. We were connected by the same attitude towards the job, excellent results, fluency of ideas and persistence and perseverance in their implementation. At that moment I realized that I was not alone in my mission and that there were more people who had not given up, let alone given up offering each new generation a high quality education, not because of being paid additionally, being respected by the director or being awarded, or having ideal work conditions, but because they are eternal enthusiasts, people who like their vocation and work with children. All of them are, therefore, aware that they work now, that they cannot live in the past or in waiting for a better time to come, but that they can keep abreast of the times.
Secondly, it is also remarkable how an association appreciates the work of a teacher at the moment when all compete for who will more underestimate the work of an educational worker, forgetting that the teaching profession is the basis of all other professions. The way to a good teacher is long and never ends. Instead of motivating and enabling the continuous progress of each teacher, the system seems to slow and render it impossible. Children are not either better or worse, they are the picture of the time in which they grow up and we should find the best way to work with them. This is not easy but it is possible and feasible. This is what the Association “Živojin Mišić” has realized, which many have not. The Association has made it possible and still makes it possible for educational workers to meet, compare and share their pedagogical and methodical experience. The Association is thought to be a place of making numerous friends, co-workers. In this way, enthusiasm is not an isolated and lonely phenomenon which is suffocated by the environment in the course of time, but a widespread network of contacts and people who consider teaching a holy place of modeling children’s souls.
Thirdly, the award has encouraged me to be even better and more successful in what I do. Every following year, I attended the award presentation ceremony for the new generations of educators and was glad that there were more and more of us. After the presentation, I would continue monitoring the work of the newly awarded, changing myself under their influence and developing myself professionally.
Today I am extremely glad that I can congratulate the new generation and wish them to keep company and co-operate, just like us, in 2014. Enjoy your well-deserved award and let your professional skills be a signpost in schools, environments in which you work and let the teaching image be even richer and more meaningful by your own examples. This is your day! Welcome among the best where there is your well-deserved place.”
